Join us to relax in nature during Botanic Gardens week
Botanic Gardens Week is 18 to 24 May, and provides an excellent reason to visit the Western Australian Botanic Garden in Kings Park.
Compared with the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney that was established in 1816 (210 years ago), the WA Botanic Garden is a youngster of only 60 years. And it’s a tiny baby compared with the Botanical Garden of Padua in Italy that dates from 1545.
But the WA garden provides a great snapshot of the unique and beautiful Western Australian flora over its 17 hectares, featuring 3,000 species divided by geographic areas of the state, or major floral types such as Banksias and Acacias.
Botanic Gardens Week celebrates the health and wellbeing benefits of botanic gardens, recognising the increasingly known truth that contact with nature and green spaces is associated with reduced psychological distress and improved mental state.
In contrast to some top botanic gardens around the world, the WA garden has free entry at all hours, making it very accessible. Free guided walks are offered at 10am and 1pm daily throughout the year, except in extreme weather conditions.
Booking is not necessary, so come and join us when you can to de-stress and enjoy the wonders of the WA flora.
We also have several bookable Themed Walks this month aimed at enhancing well-being by spending time in nature.
